The pathogenic fungus Exserohilum rostratum has a wide ecological niche and and shows great diversity in nature. It can cause disease symptoms on more than 30 plants, including many economically important crop such as corn, rice, wheat, sweet sorghum and tomato. In China, it is reported that eight plant species are natural hosts of E. rostratum, and another twenty plant species have been confirmed to be its hosts through artificial inoculation. It is known that E. rostratum can cause severe yield loss in some cases. Here, we use PacBio sequencing technology to provide the first draft of the genome assembly of E. rostratum, which will help future research on the pathogenic mechanism of this fungus.
