Safe and effective opioids

Prescription opioid use and harms are an area of great public health interest globally. It is of particular concern in Australia, having one of the highest levels of opioid utilisation globally. Harms due to opioids cause three deaths, nearly 150 hospitalisations and 14 emergency department admissions every day. My research aims to find a way to safely and effectively prescribe opioids to improve the health of those suffering from pain and to reduce the overall burden on our society. In my research, health care data will be analysed to shed insight into the real-world use of prescription opioids, to inform clinical guidelines and policy interventions, to optimise the safe and effective use of prescription opioids.
