We propose a high-resolution spectral and timing study of the ultraluminousX-ray source (ULX) NGC 5204 X-1 one of the closest and brightest in its class.An XMM-Newton observation of 250 ks (split into two epochs) will determine thegeometry and physical properties of the accretion disc and relativisticoutflows shedding new light on super-Eddington accretion. Taking advantage ofthe source variability and strong lines we will constrain: a) theluminosity-temperature trend of the disc components b) the connection betweenthe outflow and the accretion regime c) the conical structure of the outflow inanalogy with SS 433 and d) its kinetic feedback.
