Microbial diversity in gingival crevicular fluid of dental patients using 16S rRNA sequencing

This study characterized the subgingival microbiome in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples from 339 adult patients attending a dental clinic from January to August 2024. Using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene's V3-V4 regions (primers 338F/806R), bacterial communities were profiled to explore associations with dental conditions. DNA was extracted from GCF, PCR-amplified, purified, and processed through quality control including read merging (FLASH), demultiplexing, and chimera removal (UCHIME). The data provide insights into oral microbiome diversity and its potential clinical relevance for diagnostic applications.
