The Wolbachia endosymbiont from three geographically distinct strains of Drosophila ananassae were sequenced. Since the Hawaii strain of D. ananassae is known to have a Wolbachia lateral gene transfer (Hotopp, J. D. et al., 2007), the Wolbachia cells were transfected and cultured in Sua5B cells. The India and Indonesia strains of D. ananassae are not thought to have a Wolbachia lateral gene transfer.
