Vacation and travel habits of the West German population in 1984 as
well as vacation plans for the next season. The content of the study is
largely comparable with the other travel analyses.

Topics: vacation frequency in the last three years; destination areas;
same destination each year; type of vacation and psychological demand
on vacation; time of vacation; duration of vacation; duration and time
of travel decision; opportunities for economizing used on the last
vacation trip; sources of information and travel agency; form of
organization of the trip and means of transport used; lodging and meals
on vacation; most important criteria in selection of lodging; meal
services booked before start of trip; travel companion; total
expenditures for vacation travel; most important activities and
athletic activities at place of vacation; information on second or
third vacation trips; frequency of short vacation trips; travel
decision for the following year; preference up to now and future
interest in new forms of vacation; preferred vacation regions at home
and abroad; forms of lodging used up to now and possible interest in
selected forms; most important requirements of optimum vacation
lodging; advantages and disadvantages of a vacation apartment or a
vacation house; preferred leisure activities and their significance for
vacation considerations; importance of selected needs in life and areas
of life; frequency and type of short vacation trips; assessment of
development of financial situation of household.

The following questions were posed to those not traveling: year of
last vacation trip and reasons for not taking vacation.

Demography: age; sex; marital status; number of children; ages of
children (classified); religious denomination; school education;
occupation; occupational position; employment; household income; size
of household; composition of household; respondent is head of
household; characteristics of head of household; living together with a
partner; number of persons in household with their own income; having a
yard willingness to participate in a similar follow-up survey.

Interviewer rating: willingness of respondent to cooperate; interest
of respondent in survey topic; place of survey; length of interview;
date and time of interview; ZIP (postal) code; city size.
