Irish Folklore and Lady Gregory Adaptations (Plaintext Corpus)

This repository contains the plaintext files of fourteen English-language Irish folk tales, alongside fourteen English-language adaptations by Lady Gregory. The dataset enables comparative analysis of source material and its literary re-workings, offering insight into editorial style, adaptation practices, and the shaping of Irish cultural heritage through retelling. The texts are suitable for use in digital humanities, literary studies, comparative folklore, stylometry, and natural language processing. All files are encoded in UTF-8 and can be processed with standard text analysis tools. This corpus was curated by researchers on the CASCADE project:https://www.horizoncascade.net/ CASCADE (101119511) is a Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network funded by the European Commission and UKRI. A selection of the original folk tales was kindly provided by the Corpus of Electronic Texts (CELT) project, University College Cork:https://celt.ucc.ie/ We are grateful for their work in preserving and making available Irish textual heritage.
