“Judith, for years on of our best nurses.” Portrait of Nurse Judith attending a baby’s eyes after the mother has been discharged from the Maternity Ward. At this point the hospital had only five beds, although an extra two could be squeezed in, on the Maternity Ward and were waiting for funding from the African District Council to put up a ward of fifteen beds. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1947-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
