The IML-Malaria dataset, developed by the University of Information Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, is dedicated to malaria life cycle classification via thin blood smear images. It comprises 345 microscopic images of Giemsa-stained blood samples, with a total of 38,449 annotated cells, covering four distinct lifecycle stages of the malaria parasite (Plasmodium): ring form, schizont, trophozoite, and gametocyte. The dataset was created by collecting samples from local hospitals and having the samples annotated by professional medical experts. The primary applications of the IML-Malaria dataset focus on enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of malaria diagnosis, particularly in resource-limited areas, where machine learning technologies are leveraged to assist medical practitioners in conducting rapid and accurate malaria testing.
