Construction starts in France 2000-2023, by building type and floor space

In 2023, there were more residential buildings constructed in terms of floor space than non-residential ones in France. However, non-residential buildings made up most of the newly constructed building floor space until 2002. Non-residential construction reached nearly 22.4 million square meters in 2023, while there were 24.4 million square meters of new residential buildings.
