The supporting information includes 2 text that show all necessary data for the detrital zircon U-Pb dating results and counts of detrital framework components of sandstones used in the manuscript, respectively. All raw data of U-Pb dating were gained using laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) method at the Wuhan SampleSolution Analytical Technology Co., Ltd., Wuhan City, China and then processed using an Excel-based software ICPMSDataCal (Liu et al., 2008, 2010). A discordance filter (90%-110%) was employed to examine data reliability and data with delete line are discordant or invalid. Table S2 presents detrital framework components of fourteen sandstones from the Wawukuang Formation in the Laiyang Sag. We collected 2-3 sandstones in every sampling site and used Gazzi-Dickinson point counting method to calculate the number of grains (Dickinson, 1970; Ingersoll et al., 1984). For per sample, at least total 500 framework grains were obtained in the thin section under the microscope.
