Two types of whitish loquat and reddish loquat orignated from cv. Dongting (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.), which is more ten-year-old tree. cv. Dongting is a reddish loquat. Whitish loquat is a bud mutation from cv. Dongting. Two types (W and R) of peeled loquats were illustrated in Figure 1. To assess sugar content in loquat, we collected four developmental stages of loquat to measure fructose and sorbitol, including coloration, degreening, enlargement, and maturation. The measurements were described by Ma et al. (2014). Furthermore, we also collected enlargement (stage 1) and maturation (stage 2) loquats for RNA-Seq. After picking off, the loquats were immediately frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80°C for RNA-Seq analysis respectively.
