16S V4-V5 rRNA of human skin and nares from children with atopic dermatitis and healthy controls in South Africa

We profiled the skin and nasal microbiomes of 197 children aged 9-38 months from two socio-environmentally distinct settings, urban Cape Town and rural Umtata, South Africa, including healthy controls and children with AD. We used 16S rRNA gene (V4-V5) sequencing to assess bacterial diversity, skin and nares inter-site overlap, and disease-associated taxonomic shifts.
