We asked how often mutations act dominantly versus recessively in a classic cell-signaling pathway in budding yeast. By selecting yeast that are resistant to the mating pheromone alpha-factor and sequencing their genomes, we pinpoint genes and mutation types that suppress pathway signaling, including dominant-negative effects.
