Toronto emotional speech set (TESS)

These stimuli were modeled on the Northwestern University Auditory Test No. 6 (NU-6; Tillman & Carhart, 1966). A set of 200 target words were spoken in the carrier phrase \"Say the word _____' by two actresses (aged 26 and 64 years) and recordings were made of the set portraying each of seven emotions (anger, disgust, fear, happiness, pleasant surprise, sadness, and neutral). There are 2800 stimuli in total. Two actresses were recruited from the Toronto area. Both actresses speak English as their first language, are university educated, and have musical training. Audiometric testing indicated that both actresses have thresholds within the normal range.本研究所用刺激材料参照西北大学听觉测试第6号（Northwestern University Auditory Test No. 6，NU-6；Tillman & Carhart, 1966）进行建模。两位年龄分别为26岁与64岁的女演员，以载体短语"Say the word ______"的中文句式“说出词语______”朗读了200个目标词汇，并录制了该套词汇分别演绎愤怒、厌恶、恐惧、快乐、惊喜、悲伤及中性七种情绪状态下的录音。整套刺激材料总计2800条。两位女演员均招募自多伦多地区，二者均以英语为母语，拥有大学学历且接受过音乐训练。听力学测试结果显示，两位女演员的听觉阈值均处于正常范围之内。
