To better understand the community structure and different functions present in marine seep ecosystems, a comparative multigenic and metagenome sequencing approach was used on samples from three area of the Mississippi Canyon in the Gulf of Mexico. Common and unique metabolic features of the microbial communities were identified and correlated with geochemical parameters to provide new insights into the different microbial processes in marine hydrocarbon seep environments.
