The objective of "Time Budget Survey 2000/01" is to gather infomation on how the population spends its time doing different activities. The time busget survey is our primary source of knowledge about the amount and forms of unpaid work that are carried out in society, who does this work and when it is done. The survey contains data on how people actually live within the restraints and oppurtunities provided by their levels of living. Thus, it constitutes a valuable supplement to the level of living surveys.

The Time Budget Survey was firstly conducted in Norway in 1972-73. It was originally inspired by the international survey "Comparative Time-Budget Projecet", conducted in twelce different countries. The survey from 2000-01 is the fourth of its kind in Norway and was designed to ensure comparability with the international survey.

The data material is mainly collected through written diaries. Also, participants were asked to answer questions in a personal interview.

The survey deals with questions on use of time within the following domains:
1. Work
2. Work-related travels
3. Domestic work, maintenance, child care, shopping and personal travels
4. Personal needs
5. Education
6. Leisure activities (sports, entertainment, social activities, media and reading)

This dataset contains the data for the interviews. The diaries are documented in a separate file.
