The survey, conducted in the Newcastle and Upper Hunter area of NSW was concerned with radio and television usage, and in particular with listening to 2NC - the ABC Radio 1 Station in Newcastle, and 2OH - the ABC Radio 3 station in Muswellbrook. The survey included questions relating to specific programs on these stations, and a one-day media diary. Topics include: television and radio ownership; number of radios in the household and in cars and the number which are FM receivers; problems with radio reception and which stations are hard to receive; whether the respondent has listened to the radio in the last seven days and if not, the reasons for not listening; stations listened to in the last seven days; an activities diary for one day; the respondent's use of radio; listening habits for specific time periods of weekdays; whether the respondent listens to ABC stations 2NA, 2NC or 2UH and the frequency of listening for specific programs on these stations; newspaper and magazine readership; whether the respondent has a colour television or a black and white set or both; the number of weeknights that television is watched in the evening from 6 o'clock onwards and on which channel the news is watched; type of news coverage preferred; opinions of ABC news programmes and their formats; whether the district news is adequately covered by the local ABC television programs; and, which sports are watched on television at the weekends. Background information includes age, sex, occupation, the time that the respondent usually gets home from work, school, etc., level of education, household composition and an interviewer assessment of the respondent's attitude to the interview. Data refers to period from 21 October, 1980 to 7 November, 1980
