we collected 115 soil samples in forests from north to south China, covering tropical forest, subtropical forest and temperate forest types, and investigated the soil bacterial community compositions based on the data of 16S rDNA sequences (V4 hypervariable region) using the Illumina MiSeq. The objectives of this study were: 1) to determine the composition of the soil bacterial community of different forest types across eastern China; 2) to explore the biogeographic distribution patterns of soil bacterial communities across such a wide range; and 3) to examine the dominant factors in shaping the bacterial community structure of these soils.
