Data from: Redescription and systematic affinities of Moltenia rieki Schlüter, 2000 (Xyelidae: Archexyelinae) (Molteno Formation, South Africa), one of the rare Gondwanan Triassic Hymenoptera

The fossil specimen documented by the RTI files composing this dataset is housed at the Evolutionary Studies Institute (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa). It belongs to the Anderson collection. It bears the specimen number PRE/F/10438 and has two sides, a and b, both of which were documented. Original photographic data were collected in October 2015. Each RTI file was derived from a set of 58 photographs obtained using a prototypal light dome of about 30 cm in diameter and equipped with 58 LEDs. Both the light dome and camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark III equipped with a MP-E 65 mm macro lens) were driven by a prototypal control box. A ball removed from a ball pen was used as reflecting sphere. Obtained photographs were then batch-optimized using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and were further compiled into an RTI file using the RTI Builder software (available from Cultural Heritage Imaging) using the HSH fitter. The RTIViewer software (available from Cultural Heritage Imaging) allows visualizing the RTI files composing this dataset.
