Effect of apolipoprotein E status and lipopolysaccharide on the abundance and function of P-glycoprotein at the blood-brain barrier and on microglia

This thesis examines disease-related factors contributing to Alzheimer's disease and the effect of these factors on drug transporters within the brain, with P-glycoprotein as the main transporter of interest. It identifies how brain drug transporters may become dysregulated due to these disease-related factors and explores opportunities to restore transporter functionality, with the aim of improving medication outcomes for individuals with Alzheimer's disease.
