Inequalities, Civic Loss and Well-Being, 2021-2023

This project used innovative methods, including app-based surveys of spatial mobility and data linkages, to compare place-based and individual measures of accessibility, and explore how changing patterns of civic loss and gain relate to measures of health and well-being. Network-based cumulative opportunity geographical accessibility scores were computed at postcode level for eight key services: libraries, pharmacies, primary school, high school, GP surgery, supermarkets, sports grounds, petrol stations and post offices. These were calculated for four modes of transport, including private transport, public transport, cycling and walking, and for the following six travel time catchment areas: 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes and 30 minutes.
