The rumen microbiota of ruminants is essential for maintaining good rumen ecology, health and productivity. The composition and function of rumen microbes can also be influenced by many other factors. Recent studies have also suggested that diet, animal species and the geographical location in which the animal live could influence microbial diversity in yak.
