NRS-19739 | Admission and record cards [Brush Farm Home, Eastwood]

This series consists of record cards relating to residents of Brush Farm Home and Brush Farm Infants Home at Eastwood. The majority of the cards relate to children born in the 1950s and 1960s, although there are a small number of earlier and later dated cards. The cards are arranged in alphabetical order by surname.Each card provides, at a minimum, details of the name of the child, their date of birth, and religious denomination. Additional information can vary, but will generally also include information on the disabilities affecting the child, the level of the disability, the aetiology (cause or origin) of the condition, the child's educational and adaptive potential, and sometimes their IQ (Intelligence Quotient). Dates when any reports were made about the child are often included, and the back of the main card will often also include information on any educational testing that was conducted, including date, type of test and results.Many of the cards also contain additional remarks providing information regarding the child's background, progress, other placements (either institutional or elsewhere), and their destination following discharge from Brush Farm. These remarks usually include any known information about the child's natural parents and sometimes siblings, their home situation, why the child was placed in care, and similar information on any adoptive or foster parents and whether such placements were successful. In addition, there are often comments on the behaviour of the children, any medical testing or treatments, and progress made by the child whilst in care. Where relevant, information is included about prior institutional placements, and sometimes plans for future placements.
