BLACKENING CRITICAL DISCURSIVE STUDIES: AFROPERSPECTIVIST EPISTEMOLOGIES CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD OF CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS IN BRAZIL

ABTRACT In this article, I present some arguments about the relevance of Afroperspectivist epistemologies to theoretical and methodological constructions in critical discourse studies, specifically to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), to studies that aim to understand the relationship between discourse, race and other intersectionalities in our Brazilian context. When discussing racist practices in contemporary discursive manifestations, it is important to consider epistemological perspectives that assimilate the multiple forms of oppression which affect black people in our society - oppressions that are consequences of coloniality (NASCIMENTO, 2019; RESENDE, 2017, 2019; SANTOS, 2019). In addition, it is urgent to think about local creations of knowledge in order to overcome the false ‘universalizing knowledge’ so consolidated in modern sciences (RESENDE, 2017, 2019; PARDO, 2011, 2019; VIEIRA, 2019). Therefore, firstly, I present some concepts of CDA and the Latin-American decolonial perspectives of CDA (CDA-LA). Then, I discuss the contributions of Afroperspectivist and decolonial epistemologies to CDA, considering notions of discourse, the relations between language and racism, among other relevant elements (GONZALEZ, 1988; CARNEIRO, 2005, 2011; GOMES, 2005; RIBEIRO, 2017, 2019; ALMEIDA, 2019; NASCIMENTO, 2019; COLLINS, 2019; HOOKS, 2015 KILOMBA, 2019; FANON, 2008; BERNADINO-COSTA; MALDONADO-TORRES; GROSFOGUEL, 2018; MAKONI ET AL, 2003). Finally, in the last section of this article, I present an investigation which describes recent pieces of research about racism and the discourse from the perspective of the ACD conducted in Brazil, aiming to point out the paths taken in order to contribute to an overview of local studies about this theme.
