Human gut microbiota raw sequences reads from obese patients without and with NAFLD in different severity stages

NAFLD consists of a wide spectrum, from simple steatosis to more severe stages with increased liver inflammation and ballooning such as NASH. Moreover, even though obesity is one of the well-known risk factors for NAFLD, some morbidly obese patients have normal liver histology. In this study, our objective is to investigate how the gut microbiota contributes to the development or prevention of NAFLD and its staging, by looking into 91 subjects with obesity but normal liver function, individuals with simple steatosis, individuals with borderline NASH stage, and individuals with NASH.
