NRS-18594 | War Service Register [Newcastle Boys' High School]

This series consists of a single volume, in which are recorded details of Newcastle Boys’ High School alumni who served during the Second World War. The volume appears to have been commenced during the War and brought up to date as information came to hand. In addition to the names of Old Boys who served, the volume contains details, where known, of branch of service, date of embarkation, unit, rank and decorations. Fatalities are starred, and the circumstances, where known, are briefly indicated. The register is organised alphabetically.The date “27.5.41” appears in pencil on the back flyleaf, and a newspaper cutting inserted under “O” appears to date from the first week of January, 1946. A sheet of pencilled tallies is loose inside the back cover.The register is an alphabetical tabbed index volume, of sewn signatures between rigid card boards with a cloth spine. The volume displays signs of wear, and the covers, while not detached, are somewhat loose.
