A Study on the Current Situation and Consumption Behavior of Wooden Products in Taiwan

Wooden products are closely linked to people’s daily life. This study focuses on survey of the current situation, consumer habit, lifetime of usage, and handling method of wooden product in Taiwan. Research results show materials for home furniture, including desk and chairs in living room and dining room, or bedroom furniture and closets, are mostly wooden products. There are differences in selecting wooden product for interviewees with different personal data and living environment. The years of usage for wooden furniture are approximately 6-15 years, 6-20 years for wooden door, window, and floor, 1-10 years for wooden containers, 6-15 years for household decoration materials, less than 1 year for paper and paper product. Garbage disposal for family use wooden product is mostly by throwing out; hence, a recycle mechanism for family use wooden product garbage needs to be established. By recycling and reusing family use wooden product garbage, it can extend the years of using the wooden product, but it also reduced the pressure of tree logging, which has positive effect on carbon sequestration.
