In this study, we investigated four prophages in the Salmonella Infantis population, present either in a lineage commonly isolated from both avian and human sources or in a distant lineage of rarer or possibly less infectious clones. We examined the genetics of the prophages and created prophage-deleted mutants in order to characterize the phenotypic effect of the prophages on the host phenotype.
