The high respiration rate and shallow distribution of root system enable peach trees are extremely sensitive to hypoxic among fruit crops during waterlogging stress. Peach is often cultivated in locations with high rainfall in central and southern China that causes severe gummosis, poor tree vigor, and huge economic losses. Although several reports have reported the physiological responses under waterlogging in peach, the knowledge on molecular changes and hormones interplay in waterlogging stress and reoxygenation is quite limited. Here, we established a system of short/long-term waterlogging stress and recovery, and holistically investigated peach response to waterlogging and reoxygenation at physiological and transcriptional levels, with the ultimate goal of genetically modifying peach trees resistant to waterlogging.
