Data from: Beneath the buzz: Quantifying nest locations and densities of ground-nesting wild bees (Hymenoptera: Anthophila)

Data for the publication Hellerich et al. (2025) in <i>Methods in Ecology and Evolution</i>: Beneath the buzz: Quantifying nest locations and densities of ground-nesting wild bees (Hymenoptera: Anthophila). The dataset contains all bee specimens collected during the 2023 field survey using emergence traps. Data fields include information about collected species, time and site of collection, levels of wear and phenological remarks used to classify nesting activity and nests estimated this way.Nesting activity was classified based on the categories suggested by Portman et al. (2022) for the level of wear of wings and mandibles: 1 = Unworn (no nicks on the wings / no scratches on the mandibles and their shiny surface reaching the very tip); 2 = Slightly worn (one or two small nicks on the wings / shiny surface of the mandibles worn at the very tip, combined with small scratches); 3= Moderatly or extremly worn (multiple nicks or tears on the wings / noticeably worn down mandibles).
