Abnormal swallowing–breathing coordination is an electrokinesiographic feature of dysphagia in multiple system atrophy: a comparative study with Parkinson's disease

The dataset contains comprehensive clinical and instrumental data collected from patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), parkinsonian variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-P), and cerebellar variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-C), along with a cohort of healthy control subjects. It includes: 1) Demographic information: age, sex, and disease duration for patients; age and sex for healthy controls. 2) Motor assessment: standardized evaluations of motor function (UPDRS III score in PD patients and UMSARS II score for MSA patients). 3) Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES): qualitative and quantitative data on oropharyngeal swallowing, including DOSS score, in patient groups. 4) Electrokinesiographic swallowing study (EKSS): high-temporal-resolution recordings capturing the timing and coordination of oral and pharyngeal phases of swallowing, as well as swallowing–respiratory interactions, collected in patient groups and healthy controls.
