Endometriosis is an chronic inflammatory disorder that affects women of reproductive age. However, the underlying pathological mechanisms require further elucidation. Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) plays a fundamental role in the regulation of cellular metabolism and methylation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the function of NNMT in the development of endometriosis. We obtained endometriomas from affected patients and normal endometrial tissue from donors to isolate ectopic endometrial stromal cells (eESCs) and normal endometrial stromal cells (nESCs), respectively. Furthermore, we transfected human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) with shRNA lentivirus to create shNNMT_HESCs and shNC_HESCs cell strains, thereby facilitating a deeper understanding of the role of NNMT in endometriosis.
