We isolated 333 BPA-tolerant species through culturomics. By analysing the interplay between the BPA-tolerant taxa, defined as genera biomarkers, and the global microbial community through 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, we found that these biomarkers had a significant impact on the alpha-diversity. Specifically, Clostridium and Romboutsia, were positively associated, while Intestinibacter, Escherichia-Shigella, Bifidobacterium, and Lactobacillus, were negatively associated. Microbial community networks showed differences according to the study groups. The normal-weight group exhibited a more connected network than the overweight and obese groups, potentially representing a more resilient community to external factors. Moreover, subnetworks generated with the selected biomarkers showed a correlation between taxa connectivity and better potential enzymatic capacities for the degradation or tolerance of BPA.
