Wetland Mitigation Banks Points
The point features represent the general location of wetland mitigation banks in Washington that have been approved or are under review by the Department of Ecology's Wetland Banking Program. The Department of Ecology works in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency to certify and regulate wetland mitigation banks in Washington. A wetland mitigation bank is a site where wetlands are restored, created, enhanced, or preserved before unavoidable, authorized wetland losses occur. Approved wetland mitigation banks have gone through the state certification process (WAC 173-700)and are available for mitigation use. Credits – subject to regulatory approval – are available from approved banks for future projects with unavoidable impacts to wetlands and other aquatic resources. Banks under review are proposed and are undergoing technical review by the Interagency Review Team.
