Antioxidant propertis of extracts from Camellia tenuifolia

Plants with antioxidant contents are precious resources in forest. In this experiment, samples of the leaves, flowers and peels from Camellia tenuifolia, a native tree species in Taiwan, were collected at Taipei and Nantou cultivating areas respectively. The samples were extracted with a 75% ethanol solution and the total phenolic contents of the extract samples were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The DPPH free radical-scavenging rates of extract solutions had been tested to evaluate their antioxidant properties. Besides, the inhibition effects of extracts on MeLo oxidation and the reductions of aldehyde production from linoleic oxidation had also been tested on the extract samples to understand their antioxidant properties to protect the lipids from being oxidized.
