资源简介:
The experiment was conducted on October 15, 2015 and October 22, 2015 at Danby grassland, York university around 2:30-4:20pm. The temperature on October 15, 2015 was around 10° C with strong gusts of wind and was raining. The temperature on October 22, 2015 was around 15° C with clear sky and was slightly cold. The experiment was done along with Harshvir Hehar, Olivia Kazmierczak and Adilah Ismail. The purpose of the experiment was to study the role of density on adaptation of White Aster in terms of plant height and number of leaves on the plant. There was one quadrat and one transect used in the experiment. A metal quadrat (1 meter by 1 meter) was placed in random areas at Danby grassland where the White Aster species were found. Most of the data was collected at areas where the height of the grass was fairly low. The number of flowers which was present within the quadrat was counted simply with our eyes and was recorded. The number of leaves inside the quadrat was counted visually and only the leaves that were 3 cm in length or bigger was considered for the experiment while the small ones which were approximately 1 cm in length was excluded. The height of the plant was also measured using a belt transect measuring tape in centimeters from ground level to the tip of the plant. The abundance of the species was measured by visually looking at a small amount of species and multiplying that with the total area covered by the quadrat. The abundance of the species was low due to change in temperature on the second day of the experiment as it was slightly cold causing the species to die. The number of White Aster species observed on the first day of the experiment was 80 and the number of species observed on the second day was 58. Therefore the total sample size of the experiment was 138.
