Metagenomic strategy for invertebrate bulk samples

In this study we developed a strategy for metagenomic characterization of macrobenthos bulk samples. We performed low-coverage whole genome sequencing to construct a genomic reference database. This genomic reference database was subsequently used to classify shotgun metagenomic reads originating from macrobenthos bulk samples from the North Sea. The low-coverage whole genome sequencing data was also used to obtain assemblies of high copy number loci (mtDNA and rDNA)
