This disease tends to infect children and is common in rural areas in Africa, Southeast Asia and equatorial South America. Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue str. Gauthier . This strain was isolated in Brazzaville, the Republic of Congo in 1960 and will be used for comparative analysis
