VPRS 15049 Register of Crown Grants

This series registers applications for grants of land to be made to churches, for schools and for cemeteries and other public purposes. Other applications are for the appointment of trustees for land granted for special purposes. It was the responsibility of the Colonial Secretary (1851 - 1853) then the Chief Secretary until late 1855 when it became that of the Surveyor-General.Whilst the responsibility of the Chief Secretary, details given are the cumulative number, the date of the application, the name of the applicant and details of the application, the Chief Secretary's minute (or comment or recommendation regarding the application), the Surveyor-General's Minute and then details of the area and location of the land and dates of approval.Once the matter became the Surveyor-General's responsibility the details were an annual single number, the same details with respect to the application, the Surveyor-General's comments and/or recommendation and details of the land and the dates of approval.Similar details may be able to be found in VPRS 14146 Register of Grants for Special Purposes (Grants Without Purpose).
