Camelina sativa is an emerging oilseed crop (Lee et al. 2014) for biofuels and industrial products (Iskandarov et al. 2014). A sequenced genome has been available since 2013 (http://www.camelinadb.ca/index.html; Kagale et al. 2014). Epidermal peels of the upper stem and whole upper stem tissues will be used. The scientific objective is to identify and characterize novel metabolic genes involved in the synthesis of the usual waxes found in the cuticle of Camelina stems using RNA-Seq technology. The second objective is to identify and characterize potential transcriptional regulators of Camelina cuticular wax synthesis.
