To test how warming influences biofilm assembly, succession, and resilience, we used an in situ long-term experiment in the Baltic Sea to introduce novel substrates (stones and plastic biocarriers) and perform reciprocal translocations in a bay heated by thermal discharge for over 50 years, an unaffected control bay, and an intermediate temperature gradient along the coastline between the bays.
