Behavioural and field data on Niphargus thuringius and Echinogammarus stammeri - spring habitats

The dataset provides the full data collected during field surveys with laboratory experiments performed in 2021. The first threew sheets provide data on the activity and survival of <em>Niphargus thuriniugs</em> and <em>Echinogammarus stammeri </em>reared in the Laboratory of Subterranean Biology "Enrico Pezzoli" of the Monte Barro Regional Park (Galbiate - Italy). Those amphipods have been reared in different conditions of light variation and of predation risk (representend by fire salamander and dragonfly larvae). The fourth sheet provides field data of the monitoring of 15 springs in the range of <em>N. thuringius </em>in Lombardy (Monte di Brianza and Inverigo localities). Each spring was divided in plots (1-4 plots for every spring) randomly placed along the boundary between groundwater and surface; average plot length was 126 cm and average plot width 90 cm. In total we had 25 plots that we surveyed twice at night and twice during daytime; the same observer (SL) performed all the surveys.
