This study investigated the bacterial biofilms on conventional (polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate ) and innovative biodegradable (Mater-Bi) materials, focusing on the composition of the bacterial community and pathobiome and on the dynamics of the antibiotic resistome (total content of antibiotic resistance genes), when these materials were introduced into a freshwater ecosystem (i.e., Lake Maggiore, Italy). A comparison was made with natural materials (wood, cellulose).
