This study aimed to characterise the microbiome of explanted polypropylene midurethral mesh tapes; establish correlations between the mesh microbiome and of local sites (vagina, skin and lower urinary tract) and assess shifts in microbial composition at relevant complication sites. The complications included in this study are vaginal mesh exposure, lower urinary tract perforation and chronic pain.
