This is the proceedings of a symposium held at the Society for American Archaeology in May of 1955. It was entitled, "Problems in Savaging Archaeological, Historical and Ethnological Data". It was sponsored by the Committee for the Recovery of Archaeological Remains, a committee formed after WWII to deal with archaeological remains found in the course of reservoir construction projects and other public works initiated throughout the United States. The papers in this symposium detail the state of salvage archaeology, and ethnology, in various regions and covers the role of the government and private citizens in salvaging archaeological remains.
