资源简介:
On the 14th and 21st September 2018 Urban Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief for Matt Fulford on behalf of Chedworth PCC. The watching brief was on the excavation of a trench to carry a new electric cable and water pipe to the church of St Andrew, Chedworth, Gloucestershire. A reworked 'cemetery soil' was observed across the excavated area, with over five hundred fragments of human bone recovered. Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery and Roman and post-Roman Ceramic Building Material was recovered, as well as post-medieval coffin furniture, a probable forged Charles II farthing, and architectural fragments. The side of a tomb was exposed in the side of the trench and the lining of a further tomb or vault. The watching brief has added to the archaeological evidence for the church and immediate surroundings of St Andrew's church, Chedworth, including evidence for activity during the Roman period. The trenching did not disturb any in situ burials, and the trench was dug between standing memorials, and avoided damaging buried monuments. The human remains were reburied within the trench.
