Mawson Blue Ice Runway Reconnaissance Survey, February 1990

Report of reconnaissance of selected areas of blue ice in the Mawson hinterland - regarding possible future runway sites suitable for C130 Hercules type aircraft. Program 22 - 26 February 1990. Includes colour print copies, diagrams, slopes of blue ice areas and maps. Aim - To carry out a preliminary reconnaissance of selected area of blue ice in the Mawson hinterland in order to determine which, if any, of these areas may be suitable for further detailed investigation as possible future runway sites capable of handling C130 Hercules type aircraft. Time Frame - 22-26 February, 1990 (approx). Mr Phil Barnaart carried out a reconnaissance of possible blue ice runway sites in 1988 related to the proposed operation of Russian aircraft.
