Austria's National Air Emission Inventory 1990-2004

This report presents the latest development of those air pollutants for which there are national emission ceilings. It follows the binding requirements of the EU Directive 2001/81/EC on national emission ceilings for certain atmospheric pollutants, also known as the “NEC Directive”, in terms of format and content. The NEC Directive sets binding national emission ceilings for sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOC) and ammonia (NH3) for each Member State from 2010. The NEC Directive has been transposed into national law in Austria with the Emissions Ceilings Act - Air (EG-L, BGBL. I No 34/2003); the EC-L entered into force on 12 June 2003. Article 7 in conjunction with Annex III of the NEC Directive stipulates that an annual inventory of these air pollutants shall be drawn up in accordance with the inventory rules adopted under the UNECE Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP).
