Global diversity and biogeography of the Zostera marina associated fungi

In an effort to characterize the global distribution of seagrass-associated microbial eukaryotes, we collected leaves, roots and sediment associated with twelve Zostera marina individuals from sixteen sites across the Northern Hemisphere. We then sequenced the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region to characterize the fungal community associated with Z. marina globally.
